Tesla as the main competitor

Undoubtedly, the main rival for any sports luxury electric vehicle who tries to enter this market is Tesla. I believe that their Model S is the closest competitor in terms of a class of the car. Can you see any other players in this market?

Auto Express disagrees and says the next-generation Tesla Roadster is going to be Aston Martin's main competitor. The company’s CEO Andy Palmer even said their production specialties " puts us at an advantage over other brands who are making some big claims – such as Tesla, with a lightweight roadster. I think we could be in that space relatively easily.”

It's a bold move from any company, claiming being in competition with the Roadster is an easy space to secure.

Just have a look at those specs and tell me what exactly is easy about matching/surpassing them.

One area that Aston Martin is strong in compared to Tesla is design and if they come out with something that performs just as well as the Tesla but looks far better inside and out then odds are Aston could be the sales leader here. Performance only matters so much.

I would have to disagree. When you're spending this kind of money on a vehicle, it needs to deliver. Both in styling and performance. And if it comes down solely to looks, Tesla is light years ahead with the their interior design. Although its simplistic, its clean and futuristic. Aston Martins haven't done anything new with their interior styling for the past several years.

When it comes to Aston Martin, looks and design are paramount to success and we as buyers will expect nothing less. Why settle for something if Tesla can produce a better vehicle for around the same cost or less? Especially when the 0-60 time of 1.9 seconds is so appealing.

Unfortunately I don't think Tesla is going to stay in electric race in the coming years. They are too far behind on Model 3 production and severely in debt. There was also a massive recall recently for something related to power steering issues. There's a pretty big investigation going on right now, to determine what happened in the fatal autopilot crash that happened recently.

Tesla may have a slew of problems ahead of them, but they also have a lot of investors who are willing to throw money at Elon and the S models are still selling strong.

very true

what Tesla has over traditional car makers is branding that appeals more to younger demographics which is especially important as a 1/3 of the western world are people over 60. over time Tesla will rise to the top.
